PJM’s operations update, revised at 3 p.m. on October 14, says its Maximum Generation and Load Management alerts continue through October 14. The alert itself requires no customer action; pre-emergency load management was called on October 13 and 14 for afternoon and evening peaks. Those are different states: an alert is not a request for every household to switch off appliances. PJM operations update
DOE’s October 12 emergency order is effective October 13–16. The department says PJM may dispatch specified units as needed and direct backup generation as a last resort before an Energy Emergency Alert 3 or during one. PJM describes authority to move data centers and other large loads onto backup generation if necessary. DOE order announcement · PJM explanation
PJM says it recalled or canceled generation and transmission outages where possible, including active generation-maintenance tickets from noon October 14. Its update links the stressed conditions to above-normal temperatures and maintenance-related outages. PJM operational account
Permission does not establish use. PJM’s update says large-load backup generation had not been needed to date. Neither notice establishes that blackouts occurred. Preparing reserves, activating demand response and exhausting supply are not interchangeable claims. PJM reported nonuse · DOE contingency scope
