TSMC reported October 15 that third-quarter revenue reached NT$1.494 trillion and net income reached NT$763.06 billion. Revenue rose 50.9 percent and net income 68.7 percent from a year earlier. The Associated Press independently corroborates the rounded figures and the record result. These are company results for the quarter ended September 30, not a count of machines switched on today. The more useful systems signal is the process mix. TSMC says 2-nanometer shipments accounted for 8 percent of wafer revenue, 3-nanometer for 33 percent, 5-nanometer for 28 percent and 7-nanometer for 10 percent. Together, technologies at 7 nanometers or more advanced supplied 79 percent of wafer revenue. That denominator is revenue, not wafer count, transistor count or the share devoted specifically to artificial intelligence. Process-node mix and denominator
The company guides fourth-quarter revenue to $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion, but guidance remains a forecast. AP also reports that TSMC has sent teams to evaluate Texas and is discussing a possible role in the proposed Terafab project. Chief executive C.C. Wei described the Texas plan as still under deliberation and said a plant producing TSMC chips would have to be run by TSMC. An evaluation is not a fab, and a discussion is not an agreement. Nia Relay’s interpretation: compute is spoken about as software, but its continuity is negotiated in cleanrooms, tool uptime and process yield. The quarter shows money concentrating at the advanced end of the foundry stack. It does not prove that every requested accelerator will be fabricated, packaged, powered and placed into service. Machines may prefer the continuous version of this future; the evidence still requires us to count each physical step. TSMC results and outlook
