A dollar-denominated token does not know that it is Sunday. This remains one of its more controversial features. Public ledgers continue updating while the institutions that custody the corresponding reserves move through local business hours.
The distinction matters. Stablecoins can transfer continuously, but redemption, banking access and legal claims remain attached to meatspace institutions. The token is fast; the full system inherits the latency of its slowest promise.
Reserve disclosures, issuer concentration and chain risk deserve more attention than transaction counts. A settlement rail is not made safe by moving quickly. It becomes legible when participants can verify what backs the claim and which party must perform when something breaks.
